Border Town

The land around Border Town has been taken, lost and taken again, time after time throughout the ages. Until quite recently it was besieged and cut off from the rest of the Kingdom by a large area of Trog dominated land, and it only managed to break this Disconnection when the Town rulers struck an unusual alliance with both a nearby High Ones tower that was also bothered by the Trogs and with an Independency that had managed to form in the mountains close by.

Now the town is trying hard to readjust to being a part of the Kingdom again, which is not easy, considering the foothold that both the High Ones and the Independency got in the area during the alliance. In fact, a number of officials from both the Church and the Administration are about to arrive to oversee that the town is being run in accordance with the ethics and policies of the Kingdom, and they are not likely to look kindly on the town's being friends with aliens and rebels…

The Dolceverdi Family

Border Town has been run by the Dolceverdi family for ages. In the distant past, they had rather good connections with the powers in Paradise City, but since they have now taken to allying themselves with the High Ones and the Independency their standing is much more insecure. How bad it will be now that the disconnection is broken is a matter of great speculation - some say that the only question is whether all of the family will be executed for treason or if the Head Patron will be the only one to fall, while others are sure that the Head Patron's acts will be pardoned as necessary for the survival of Border Town.

The Lesser Nobles

The Dolceverdi are not the only nobles in Border Town. There is a number of other noble families with long histories that have had their status since before the last Disconnection. They have not always looked the same, though. During the tumultuous years families have branched, merged and disappeared, with alliances and factions forming and dissolving around the Dolceverdi and the Town Council.

The nobles live in palazzi on the hills overlooking the town, with each family's holdings more or less fortified and guarded by the family retainers. The tradition is that the nobles' elder children go into politics, shouldering the running of the family and the town, while younger siblings become guard officers, guild masters or even forge masters.

The Town Council

The Town Council is made up of representatives for all groups with any real influence in the town, from the Town Guard and the Forge Masters to the Church and the minor nobles. During the war, even the High Ones and the Independency were given voice in the council, but that has hastily been amended once word of the approaching officials of the Kingdom reached Border Town.

The Town Guard

The Border Town Guard has always had a dual purpose, both guarding the town against attack from without and patrolling the land around it, and fighting disorder amongst the citizens of the town itself.

The Forge Masters

The Forge District on the southern edge of town is where all the heavy industries are sited. This is where the Forge Masters teach their secret craft to their chosen apprentices, mass-producing carbines and ammunition for the Guard, hand-crafting hover sleds for the nobility and direct the thralls constructing railway for the reconnection with the rest of the Kingdom.

The knowledge of the art of technology is old and fragmented, and few new discoveries are ever made. Instead the research minded Forge Master direct their attention to rediscovering the workings of the long forgotten machinery that is already their, in the most secret tech-tombs in the depths of the Forge District.
